G Major Blues Jam Track

We all love a good Blues based jam track, and this one is pretty cool.

Once more, we are starting with the pentatonic scale and here are all the scale shapes for you:

G scale
Shape 1, starting on Fret 3
Blues track
Shape 2, starting on Fret 5
Jam track
Shape 3, starting on Fret 7
Pentatonic scale
Shape 4, starting on Fret 10
Blues jam
Shape 5, starting on Fret 12

Here are some things you can try:

  • I am a huge fan of singing a line then playing it. It helps you be creative, helps your ear training, and also stops random noodling:)

  • Once you've done that, sing a line, then instead of trying to play it, play an 'answer' to it - think 'question and answer' typical in blues.

  • Can you play a simple line, starting on the root, then change shape and play the same line starting from a different root?

  • Can you do this moving up through all the shapes in order, and can you do it moving down through the shapes?

There are a few of my idea, what about yours? What do you find useful - please leave a comment.

And here is the track-
